Sunday afternoon, my roommates and I desperately needed a healthy meal after gorging on candy at a pop-up museum in Atlanta called Candytopia. So, we decided to try Flower Child, a restaurant known for its vegetarian and vegan friendly menu, near Lenox Mall.

Walking up to the building, there was an adorable host podium decorated with a cute saying and chalk flower drawings. The green exterior and signage shone through the gloomy weather, and the positive aura continued as we walked inside, where we were greeted by a friendly worker standing under an artsy hanging menu. Looking around, the open floor plan gave the restaurant a bright glow that extenuated the focal point of the room: an accent wall painted with dripping colors three-quarters of the way down, with the words “Choose Happy” in the middle.

While looking at the menu, the hostess suggested a few of her favorite items, and even let us sample the soup of the day! In the end, I decided to get the Skinny Cobb Salad, while my roommates each ordered the Wild Mushroom Soup, Tomato Toast, and Crushed Avocado Toast.

Served in a lightweight ceramic bowl, the Skinny Cobb was fresh and light, with a mix of romaine and arugula; it was truly as healthy as it looked. The avocado and tomato added a richness that gave the salad sustenance, while the corn, smoked almonds, and pickled onions added a crunch. Tossed together in a tangy vinaigrette, each bite was yummy and overall surprisingly filling!

My roommates’ soups were hearty and perfect for the rainy weather outside. Made with wild mushrooms, grass-fed beef, and various lentils, the broth was very flavorful. Their choice of toast was a classic combination to pair with the soup: one slathered with goat cheese and pistachio pesto, topped with slices of heirloom tomatoes, while the other had crushed avocado, black sesame seeds, and a sliced boiled egg sitting on top. Both thoroughly enjoyed their food, and we happily finished everything.

So, if you’re in the Atlanta area looking for a healthy filling meal in a photo-worthy venue, I would highly suggest giving the Flower Child a visit!
